Quote of the Month

"Sometimes life is bumpy & blue, filled with gobs
of goo-gunk & sticky-ick stew.

But you'll find your way & you'll pull yourself through.

You're stupendously strong!

But, mostly, you're YOU!"

Health and Safety Corner

Mental Health Awareness

July is National Minority Mental Health Awareness month. According to the Stop Mental Health Stigma Organization, Black, Latino, Caribbean, and Asian American communities often face more hurdles in getting mental health care.

Some of the biggest obstacles include:

  • Lack of access to quality or affordable care
  • Cultural stigma and fear of being judged
  • Language barriers
  • Mistrust of the medical system
  • Not enough providers who understand their backgrounds
In addition to the facts listed above, mental health issues can affect everyone. Let’s “plug in” together by helping ourselves, our family and friends. Simple steps, such as getting plenty of rest, exercise, proper nutrition, talking with others in a healthy manner, and seeking professional help, can go a long way toward mind, body and spirit wholeness. You are not alone!
